Implementation of integrated permit system
The City of Omaha Planning Department issues approximately 45,000 building permits annually. In an eight month project, Attevo assisted the City in implementing the Accela Automation system for the Permits and Inspections Division. Prior to the implementation, the City used several systems and data stores that were not integrated.
Client challenge
The City of Omaha used several non-integrated systems and data stores to manage their permit issuance and inspection operations. These separate systems were only accessible at specific workstations, creating inefficiency in the permit issuance process. Reporting of permit application status was not possible.
Address validation on applications occurred only at the end of the issuance process, leading to unnecessary overhead for applications with invalid addresses. Several types of permits were issued separately when a single permit should be used to reduce the time and effort in issuance.

Attevo worked with the City to review business processes in the Permits and Inspections Division, identifying improvements and efficiencies.
Attevo's knowledge of the Accela Automation system facilitated the new business processes and associated reporting requirements.
Working with subject management experts from the City in an iterative development cycle, Attevo delivered a system that met their requirements.
Attevo's implementation methodology included integration test cycles, allowing City clerks to process actual permit applications through the test system, thereby validating all business rules and workflows. Attevo also provided in-depth training to City staff for using the Accela Automation software.
